What is Exodus 90?
I have now answered this question hundreds of times. My briefest response is "two Lents on steroids". It usually gets a chuckle, and then I share more about the fullness and grace and profound impact this 90 day journey has had in my life, the life of men in our parish, and the life of thousands of men around the world. This will be the fourth year St. Louis de Montfort has offered Exodus 90.
Exodus 90 is a 3 month Catholic spiritual exercise for men. You will be anchored in prayer, the sacramental life of the church, asceticism (fasting and discipline), and holy fraternity. Please see https://exodus90.com/how-it-works/ for more information and details of the four pillars of E90.
I will be the first to admit, even if you can get past the cold showers in winter, there is still a daunting list of things you will be asked to sacrifice for the 90 days. Yet, it is precisely the intense fasting, consistent prayer, and journey with other men that sets the stage for a powerful encounter with Christ. By God's grace, as you let go of so many comforts, you begin to find peace, inspiration, and the joy that is only found in Christ. The distractions fall by the wayside, and each day you become a sharper and more holy witness and servant to others. You find the true freedom you seek as a beloved son of the Lord.
Exodus 90 is a challenge, but it is an opportunity that can bring you into a deeper and lasting relationship with Christ. It is a wakeup call to the sin and worldliness that has taken root in the heart. What better time to allow Christ to mend and heal those stains, than in the days and weeks leading to Easter? As God freed the Israelites from the slavery of Egypt, He also frees you from the shackles of sin. May God use the vehicle of Exodus 90 to help each of us become the man God is calling us to be, a man who loves God and serves others.
